In 2019, I noticed typography being used in fashion, specifically streetwear brands. So I decided to create a conceptual conference titled 'Type In Streetwear' that focused on the influence type had in fashion. I created 3 posters to advertise for this event and a zine to highlight the guest speakers.
PHASE 1 :: I started with the posters. I created multiple different iterations (a few pictured above). I played with unique typefaces, custom typography, illustrations, and imagery to get my mind going.
PHASE 2 :: I am a big advocate for printing your work to get off your computer. I believe our best ideas come from getting our hands messy. I printed out a composition I had create on my computer and then cut it up which resulted in the design you see in the top row of this section. However it wasn't quite there — I kept pushing the design. I cut it up with my exacto knife, create more illustrations, used different mediums, until I found a composition I was really stoked on (bottom row).
PHASE 3 :: I took those compositions, scanned them, and messed with them more in Photoshop and Illustrator. Pictured above are the 3 final posters for 'Type In Streetwear.'
Pictured above are a few spreads from the zine created for the Type In Streetwear conference. The zine explored the history of streetwear and had information on the speakers on the panel.
